Harpenden Health and Wellbeing Campus – a new beginning for the Red House

Healthcare provision in the community has changed vastly in the last 20 years. The Community Hospital model with provision of hospital services in a smaller and more local environment is being replaced by delivery of integrated health and social care services by specialised community teams using purposefully designed accommodation.

The Red House is an ideal site to create an exceptional Health and Wellbeing Campus, with a range of facilities to meet the needs of the local population in the 30 years. Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) proposes to develop the Harpenden Memorial Site with accommodation for:

HCT hope to work cooperatively with volunteer organisations. Discussions have already taken place with a number of organisations including MENCAP who would like to establish additional residential accommodation on the site for a number of physically disabled people with learning difficulty and possibly respite care services for children and adults.

The Health and Wellbeing building would be designed for the future, to accommodate the types of services that might be sited there

This Health and Wellbeing building may include, but is not limited to:

It is envisaged that, subject to budget and planning approval, this building would have up to three floors. The Red House is already at three floors and the flats opposite the site are three floors.

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is setting an ambitious schedule for this development.

We hope to start to build not later than early 2016.
